Paint with bubbles – Water theme craft and books

by Rashi on October 6, 2010

Last week we did a fun painting experiment with bubbles. I had the kids make a fish with bubble painting which goes with the Book of the Week – Water.

So, here’s what you”ll need to get started -  Contruction Paper, Liquid Paints, Bubble solution, Straw, Scissor, Googly eyes, Glue, Glue glitters.

Step 1: Mix any color liquid paint and bubble solution in a cup.

Step 2: Using a straw,  mix and blow to make bubbles.

Step 3: Draw a fish on the paper and color it using bubble paint. have your kids just play with the bubbles. The bigger bubbles will just stick and form a 3d image.

Step 4: After drying the bubble paint just cut out fish shape.

Step 5: Glue eyes and use some glue glitter for decoration.

Some Related Books

“Watch out near Water” by Claire Llewellyn is a book that discusses the importance of safety in and around water. In this book, kids understand the different ways to keep safe when in or near water – whether at the swimming pool, at beach or at lake or out in a boat.

In the book “Water’s Way”, Lisa Westberg Peters describes for children the various phase changes of water. Tony who is awaiting snow is excited to see moisture forming in the cloud when fog covers his kitchen window but the morning warm temperatures bring only rain. As temperatures drop during the night, ice crystals grow in the clouds and shows up on his upstairs window. Tony awakes to find a new day that’s cold enough for snowflakes. He smiles and goes out to play in snow.

“Follow the Water from Brook to Ocean” by Arthur Dorros is a very interesting book about water. Kids learn how water after a rainstorm runs down from their street s to a brook and finally into a river. They also learn how waterfall is used to make electricity as the water flows through a dam. I liked this book because it showed how we use water and why it’s important to keep our water clean.

“Nature’s Cycle Water” by Dana Meachan Rau is a very short book that teaches the kids about rain, how water cycle changes, and how water vapor forms in the air. My kids love talking about the water cycle :)
