During the month of August, Stickfiggy and Memetales collaborated to conduct the Grins and Frowns workshop for kids 4-8 years of age. It was such a great great experience!
My biggest learning and the best part?
Kids have a high degree of emotional intelligence. Seems like they are born with such awesome perception of the world and the situations that surround them.Engage them and they will teach YOU more than you can teach THEM
The worst part?
Society and unnecessary pressures cause kids to unlearn what they already know and desensitize them. As adults they end up being nothing lie their younger nimble self, ready to learn. These are the adults that will parent the next generation….
Anyways, the workshop was a massive success! Kids spoke about how they feel, what makes them happy, sad, angry and so on. They learned how to watch expressions and even draw them (thanks to Stickfiggy!) Ever class, we talked about our feelings, played with emotion cards, shared, learned and did combined art projects. It was all worth it when one child refused to go play after the workshop and she wanted to learn more art. Another time, we had a child talk about how she felt “rejected” in school. There was an outpouring of ideas as to what she could do when she felt a certain way.
We are working on putting all of the work from the kids into a fun book/books. So be on the lookout for that!
Thanks for Stickfiggy for an awesome collaboration and even creating a book with us (more about that in an upcoming post!)
Enjoy the pictures and keep an eye on us in September …. because we have so many fun things coming up including some awesome giveaways
And here is a video made by Jane Marshall aka Stickfiggy!
