Paper Cutting – A fun activity for kids

by Rashi on July 19, 2010

We want to welcome Rashi – a new member of our team who going to join me on this blog. Rashi loves kids and she is extremely creative. Rashi is also a very quick learner – so I am excited for what she will do on the blog!

We all know kids can cut paper and create a mess when they are handed over a scissor but here’s how you can make them more creative with a little help :)

This is a perfect activity for a child that is over 3 or 3.5 years old. They learn to create bigger fun patterns as they play and learn to cut.

What you will need:

All you need is a sheet of colored paper (8.5″ x 11″) & child friendly scissors!

Step 1: Fold the paper in half to make a perfect triangle. If the paper you’re using doesn’t make a perfect triangle, cut off the edge that sticks out (rectangular edge) and make it align perfectly.

Step 2: Fold the paper again so that the left and right edge of the paper meet  in the center. You will end up with a square shape.

Step 3: Fold the paper again in half to make a triangle.

Step 4: Using a scissor, make a few (3 – 4 is ideal) triangular cuts.

Step 5: Unfold the paper and you will see the child  be amazed  at what they created with a few single cuts.Explore with them and show them how you can create different repeating patterns with different shapes.

The kids will want to do this over and over again. So let them. It is a great activity that lets them discover and earn every single time. Challenge them to see if they can fold the paper differently and create a face from it?

And you want a great book related to imagination and craft to go with it? Try this one !
